Time to use the veranda again, to sit in wicker chairs on the porch, admire the square of blue sky, or dream of cozy beehives, by looking at the tiling.

If asked what I consider the most specific feature of this region's landscape, I haven't to think long, and will immedeately answer: those treesilhouettes with their permanent dark balls of mistletoe. Wherever you look, you see groups of trees with thick clusters of this olivegreen plant, that is doomed to live on others, to suck their juices, not able to root in the ground itself.

violets are blue
They layed the theoretical basis for modernism, those architects, painters and poets of the Stijlgroup. And they proclaimed those three colours, red, yellow and blue, together with lots of white and some black accents, to their main means of expression, the purest adornment nature could offer. And so these three colours, the elementary ones, are prominent and dominant in the paintings of Mondriaan, the buildings and chairs of Rietveld and the adorned poems of Van Doesburg. Back to nature, with red tulips, yellow pilewort and truly blue violets.

Just one those small villages in the region where I live, south of the Vosges mountainrange. Here I go for a stroll, here I ride my bike, here I take my easel and pastellcrays to paint.
